Governor Idris Wada of Kogi on Thursday inaugurated the 6th Kogi House of Assembly with a call on members to work as family for the overall development of the state.
Wada said during the inauguration in Lokoja that the function was in consonance with Section 105(3) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, which provided that the governor of a state should issue a proclamation to that effect.
The governor thanked God for the opportunity and congratulated the legislators for their election and urged them to reciprocate the kind gestures of their constituents.
“I appeal to you all to work as a team and like a family in the interest of unity and peaceful co-existence among the people of Kogi.
“Your motions and resolutions must always reflect the mood of the state and engineer development. You will debate, disagree and even feel agitated in the conduct of your affairs in this house. “But let maturity define your intention and produce resolutions that will assist in moving the state forward.
“Avoid sentiments and other destructive engagements like the use of ethnic, religious and place of origin advocacy as instruments of legislation,” he was quoted as saying by NAN.
Wada assured the new legislature of the cooperation of the executive arm as he pledged to abide by the rules that separated their functions. He said that the state had instituted respect for the rule of law as guiding principle for the conduct of government affairs. The governor noted that with only four returnees in the house, members must have to learn the proceedings of the assembly as fast as they can. He urged them to perform their functions with utmost devotion in order not to frustrate the expectations of the electorate.
“I, Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada, the Governor of Kogi State, in consonance with the exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 105(3) of the constitution hereby issue a proclamation for the holding of the first session of the sixth Kogi State House of Assembly this 4th day of June, 2015,” he declared.
