Victor Omofaiye’s Legislative Efforts to Rescue Constituents from Natural Disaster

Member representing Ijumu constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, raise a matter of urgent public importance calling on Kogi State government to provide relieve materials to victims whose houses and properties were destroyed by wind storm at Iffe-Ijumu.

Omofaiye drew the attention of his colleagues, state and federal government to the natural disaster caused by the heavy wind storm that completely destroyed about forty houses and public institutions at Iffe Ijumu, a community in his constituency, on Sunday 9th April, which also rendered over 100 households homeless.

He stressed that public institutions such as churches, business centers, electricity poles, wires and properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed.

Hon. Moses Ododo of Dekina constituency, while reacting to the motion, said lives of people are being affected and requested for an additional prayer that the House Standing Committee on Government House should go on assessment for comprehensive report.

Hon. Musa Jimoh Omiata supported the motion noting that he experienced the havoc wrecked by the rainstorm on Iffe-Ijumu constituents. He requested for an additional prayer that Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Kabba District should move swiftly to the disaster site.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole ruled that the House Committee on Government House should make on the spot assessment of the disaster and supervise SEMA for the delivery of relief materials.

Omofaiye appreciate the show of concern and further lobbied the relevant authorities to match words with actions.
