A week before last Salah, the deputy governor of Kogi state, Elder Simon Achuba was on Channels TV listing out the debt toll of the state government. The deputy governor gave traceable figures that confirms the state monthly allocation, its IGR in the last four years and most of all, he gave a break down of how much was given to the state as bailout and how much the state government is still owing the World Bank and other commercial banks.

These funds, if we are to go with the deputy governor’s lines, are over 300 billion naira. While we sober on this, we must also reflect on the fact that the revenue house and the 5 kilometer road in Ankpa are the only visible projects that has been completed out of this billions.

It will also interest us to know that properties like Kogi House, Kogi Hotels and every other property own by the state have been used as collateral for the loans collected by the present administration.

The implication of this is that if the state does not meet up with the agreed time, these properties will cease to be properties of the state. This is the position we have found ourselves as a state and this is the only time we can act for the collective good of our state and the common future of our children and our children’s children.

At a time like this, aside the usual political interests, we must put aside the usual factionalization and taking of sides. We must move away from the politics of “money before support” and rally behind that one and single aspirant who can address this threatening challenge instantly. We must rally behind this erudite accountant who can help us account for every kobo that has been gotten and ensure that this fund is channel towards the right direction.

Let the forth coming primary and general election not be election as usual, rather, let it be an election championed by the course to liberate the state. Let it be an election championed by the vehement refusal to allow Kogi state go down the drain – we have the responsibility to salvage the state from the present shackles and we can only do that by allowing a more vocal, responsive and foresighted leader to carry us on this journey.

Dr. Victor Alewo Adoji is dynamic. He is all encompassing and will fast track the liberation of the state more than any other aspirant. He will ensure that the debt toll that has placed the state on a time bomb will be addressed in his first 100 days in office.

Also, Dr. Adoji will ensure that viable measures are put in place to prevent such re-occurrence in the state.

It is time to stand behind the right person, it is time to become fully involved in the development of the state, it is time allow good hands to get in to office and put the state back to track.

Let us get Kogi state working with Dr. Victor Alewo Adoji.
