Members of the Senior Staff Association (SSANU) of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) have accused the Vice Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman-Miri of deliberately withholding their salaries and duty allowances.
Prof. Freemen-Miri have reportedly gone into hiding to avoid being attacked by the rampaging workers.
They staged a protest against the management of the University on Monday in Lokoja.
The protest which temporarily brought to a halt all activities on the campus of the eight year old institution coincided with the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Academic staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which commenced on Monday.
The protesting workers attempted to break into Mrs Freeman-Miri’s office on learning that she was hiding in her office and not ready to address them.
The Chairman of the Union, Uche Onyedi said that the Union could not understand what is causing the delay since allocation have been paid.
Onyedi accused the Vice Chancellor of being selfish by paying herself and feeling unconcerned about the plights of other staff that have not been paid.
He expressed concern that such had been the case since 2017 when Professor Angela Miri took over as the Vice Chancellor of the institution.
He also accused the VC of withholding cooperative and union dues deduction, saying that this is a clear case of fraud.
However, in a swift reaction, the Vice Chancellor denied the allegation of deliberately withholding any workers salaries and allowances.
Professor Angela Miri who was said to be in hiding, spoke through the Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor, Osagbemi Makanjuola attributed the delay to a technical hitch arising from the payment technology, Integrated Payment Platform.
He explained that both the school bursar and the Vice Chancellor were in Abuja to sort out the staff salaries issue.
“You know Nigeria is just getting used to new computer technology, and we are working round the clock to resolve the issue”.
He promised to ensure that all issues relating to salaries payment in the school were resolved within shortest possible time.
