For those of us who believe and advocate transparent and accountable leadership, Buhari has defied expectations once more. He has once again displayed the military nature been exhibited in his rulership by simply ignoring appeals from several quotas not to avail further any form of bailout fund Yahaya Bello’s government. Except on ground that a clear and justified account of the previous funds is given. To this effect, I expect a true democrat (if Buhari is one) to leverage on our opinions and hold Bello accountable. At least, for the fact that civil servants have continually cried out over several months of unpaid salaries and emoluments amidst the availability of the previous bailout funds.
Sometimes I wonder what our leaders truly represent; either themselves or the Nigerians. Who were behind the N30.8 billion made available to Kogi state government? What is their mission? And what could these funds be possibly used for at this critical transition hour? Workers’ salaries or Bello’s reelection campaign? I tell you, only time shall tell on those hopeful that something good can still come out of the current Kogi state government. As for me, I have since lost hope in them, and if I must be candid, Buhari has just funded Bello’s reelection campaign. It might sound rhetoric now, in the fullness of time the reality will begin to emerge.
My pain at this moment is why they have continuously abetted Bello in his quest to impoverished Kogi state. Several funds had been availed to the governor in the past, Buhari knows and I know. Yet, nothing has been put in place to show where the money went to. Instead, we saw how exorbitantly powerful my governor and his chief of staff eventually became. We saw how brigands and fellows of accursed ancestry (thugs) were empowered for shady jobs. We saw hackers of both brain and human space (com-raids/data boys) being paid handsomely. But the civil servants, the lovers of humanity and those who spent their entire life working to better the entire Kogi state were ignored and left at the mercy of our incompetent governor. Funny enough, few persons including President Muhammadu Buhari did not view this as man’s inhumanity to man.
Well, since they said the current wage bill of the state is 5 billion Naira and the sum of N30.8 billion was availed, I hope my amiable governor will at least pay four months out of the backlogs. But I tell you, we shouldn’t deceive ourselves, Bello’s campaign has just been funded. And Buhari has just recorded another low. In a matter of weeks, the realities will unfold.
See you then.
