Members of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Kogi East Chapter, have paid a congratulatory visit to the Vice Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, in recognition of his appointment and contributions to education and human development.
The visit, which took place on Wednesday, at the University Council Chamber was led by Chief John Haruna, who delivered a goodwill speech on behalf of the association, expressing gratitude to Almighty God for the privilege of unity and fellowship amongst members.
Chief Haruna appreciated the Vice Chancellor for granting the association audience without hesitation following their request for the visitation, praying for divine blessings upon his leadership and administration.
He explained that the purpose of the visit was to thank God for the opportunity given to Prof. Usman to serve as Vice Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, and to appreciate his humility, dedication and numerous contributions to Igala land, Kogi State and members of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association.
According to him, Prof. Usman impact during his years at the University of Ilorin remains remarkable, noting that he facilitated massive admission opportunities for Igala students, supported the establishment of the Igala Students Association (ISA) where he served as Patron and Student Adviser, contributed actively to the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) and created employment opportunities for Igala indigenes within the university community.

Chief Haruna further recalled that Prof. Usman also created employment opportunities for University of Ilorin graduates during his service at Prince Abubakar Audu University and later demonstrated exceptional developmental strides during his tenure at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, including massive employment opportunities and support for political appointments benefiting sons and daughters of Igala land.
Describing the Vice Chancellor with several symbolic leadership attributes, Chief Haruna referred to him as a Builder, Reformer, Developer, Defender of the Less Privileged, Achiever, Pragmatic Leader, Lover of People and Promoter of growth and development.
He expressed confidence that Prof. Usman tenure as Vice Chancellor would record unprecedented achievements that would leave indelible marks in the history of the institution.
Quoting an Igala adage, “Oli gwulor togba unyi achona le,” he noted that opportunities are meant for individuals who understand and utilize them effectively, appealing to the Vice Chancellor to continue extending his support and mentorship to members of the alumni association.
The alumni body also appreciated former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, and the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, for finding Professor Usman worthy of the appointment, praying for divine guidance upon their leadership.
In his concluding address, Chief Haruna prayed for greater heights and continued success for the Vice Chancellor, expressing optimism that his leadership journey would attain even higher levels of accomplishment in the future.
Responding to the delegation, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, expressed delight and appreciation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of enduring unity and shared history amongst members of the University of Ilorin community.
He recalled mentoring some members during their early academic years, including teaching and facilitating admissions for students while serving as pioneer Patron of the Igala Students Association within the university system.
Prof. Usman stated that he derives fulfillment from building people and empowering younger generations, emphasizing that leadership requires courage, risk-taking and selflessness.
He urged members of the alumni association to remain committed to supporting one another, stressing that individuals who celebrate others will also be celebrated in return.
The Vice Chancellor attributed his career progression solely to the grace of Almighty God, noting that leaders should always reflect on the legacy they intend to leave behind.
He added that throughout his life, he has remained a conscious and productive risk-taker driven by service and impact.
He further encouraged the alumni to sustain and strengthen their bond, assuring them of his commitment not to disappoint but to remain a worthy ambassador of the association and the institution.
Prof. Usman paid glowing tribute to former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, and the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for their continued support toward the growth of the University and improvement of staff welfare.
Members of the delegation reaffirmed their continued support for the Vice Chancellor’s administration and pledged cooperation toward the growth and advancement of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
