The people of Umomi community in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State has expressed their appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State Alh Yahaya Bello for the rehabilitation of Umomi-Akpagidigbo-Ugwolawo-Ajaka road and reaffirmed their unmixed supports for the New Direction government of the state.
The community issued the statement during the end of the year town hall meeting organised by the Youths of Umomi on the 1st of January, 2017.
Declaring the meeting opened; elder Haruna Amodu acknowledged the purposeful and detribalised governing style
of Alh Yahaya Bello noting, the governor who hailed from the Central Senatorial District and Ebira by tribe has Igala sons and daughters of proven intelligence and integrity in his government. Mallam Haruna said the Umomi Akpagidigbo-Ugwolawo-Ajaka road has been in a deplorable state in the past eleven (11) years when Igala sons were governor and there was no attempt to repair the road without regards to its importance as the only road that linked most of the communities in Igala land and other states to the seat of Igala kingdom; Idah. He said the ongoing work on the road from Idah axis by the current administration should call for maximum support for governor Yahaya Bello to enable him do more for the people of Kogi East and develop the state generally.
Also speaking, a member of the All Progressives Congress Hon Hassan Ichado said Umomi community has been in total neglect under the reign of the Peoples Democratic Party in the past fifteen (15) years but Bello has shown the sign that Umomi will get the desired dividend of democracy under the APC leadership. He said there were so many challenges facing the community that will need urgent intervention of Bello’s administration.
While commending the governor for his achievements so far, Hassan appealed to the government to fix Umomi-Ochadamu road and to equip health centres in the community with basic healthcare facilities.
In their separate remarks; Hon Jonathan Thomas and the coordinator of BelloCare from Ochadamu ward, Hon. Achimugu assured the people of Umomi of dividends of democracy under Bello’s administration.
The Administrator of Ofu Local Government Area, Hon. Abu Sule and the leader of Bello Support Group in Kogi East Hon. Ahmed Atta, who were ably represented at the occasion, commended the youths of Umomi for uniting for the progress of their community while assuring the people of Bello’s determination to develop every community in Kogi State.
The guest speaker, Comrade Onogwu Muhammed spoke on the need for the community to remain united in their request and interest in order to have a single loud voice. Onogwu noted that so far, Kogi East was the major beneficiary of governor Bello’s projects. He said apart from the Umomi-Akpagidigbo-Ugwolawo-Ajaka road, works are ongoing on Ankpa township road and Shintaku-Sheria bridge while Ankpa-Ejegbo-Emere-Enabo-Ofugo-Abejukolo road, Dekina-Oguma road, Ibana-Ogugu-Ette road have all been awarded for rehabilitation and urged the people to remain supportive of Bello’s administration.
The community appealed to the government to deploy more teachers to various primary schools and a secondary school in their area.
Food items were also distributed to members of the community courtesy of the GYB Youth Support Group.
