As the University of Jos marks its Golden Jubilee, the spirit of giving back has once again taken center stage. In a heartwarming gesture that underscores the bond between the institution and its alumni, the University of Jos Alumni Association (UJAA) Global has donated two brand new laptops and one desktop computer to the Office of the Registrar.

According to a statement signed by Dr. Sunday Musa Onalo, Public Relations Officer for
University of Jos Alumni Association (Global), the donation, made courtesy of Chief Peter Owoeye, was formally presented on behalf of the Association by Honourable Beni Lar and Professor Dimis Mai-Lafia, a past President of UJAA.

The atmosphere at the Registrar’s office was one of gratitude and reflection as the items were received. Speaking during the presentation, the alumni representatives noted that the gesture was more than just a donation, that it was a reaffirmation of the alumni’s dedication to the growth and modernization of the University of Jos.

“Equipping the Registrar’s office with modern ICT facilities will enhance efficiency, streamline services, and contribute to the University’s digital transformation drive,” Hon. Lar remarked. “As alumni, we are committed to ensuring that the institution that shaped us continues to thrive and remain relevant in today’s world.”

Prof. Mai-Lafia echoed these sentiments, adding that alumni engagement is a vital pillar in the University’s journey. “This gesture, though symbolic, represents the enduring love we have for UNIJOS. We hope it inspires more Josites to remember that giving back is the true hallmark of leadership and progress.”

The Registrar’s office, being central to the day-to-day running of the University, will now be better equipped to handle its administrative functions. With these tools, staff are expected to deliver services faster and more effectively, benefitting both students and the wider academic community.

For the University of Jos Alumni Association, this act fits into a broader vision. The UJAA has, over the years, remained a dependable partner in driving infrastructural development, student support initiatives, and strategic collaborations that position the University as a hub of excellence.

Dr. Gad Peter Shamaki, Global President of UJAA, reaffirmed this commitment, noting that the 50th Anniversary celebrations are not only a time to reflect but also an opportunity to redouble efforts toward strengthening the alma mater. “Our association will continue to forge meaningful partnerships and channel resources that will benefit generations of Josites to come,” he said.

This donation, while modest, carries symbolic weight. It demonstrates that alumni contributions are not only about size, but about impact and continuity.

Chief Owoeye, through his generosity, has joined the ranks of distinguished friends of the University who understand that education and administrative support remain vital drivers of sustainable progress.
As the University of Jos celebrates five decades of resilience, scholarship, and service to humanity, gestures like this shine a light on the true essence of alumni engagement and a bridge between the past and the future.

The National Executive Council of the UJAA Global has therefore called on all alumni, friends, and well-wishers to emulate this example and support the University in diverse ways. The goal is clear: to build a world-class institution that stands tall not only in Nigeria but across the globe.

Indeed, at 50, the University of Jos is not just celebrating history, it is building legacy.
