Two female students of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) and Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja on Friday lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident which occurred at the Felele area, Lokoja.
Kogi Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Samuel Oyedeji, confirmed that 8 persons were involved. Two persons died and 4 injured while 2 escaped unhurt.
According to the FRSC commandant, two trucks and two tricycles were involved in the accident.

He said that the injured were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Oyedeji said that one of the trucks’ break failed and lost control then rammed into the tricycles.
He advised motorists to always ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on a journey.
The two female students, Covenant Omolola Isaac, a 200-level Geology student of the Federal University Lokoja and Abu Taiwo Abimbola, ND11 student of Science Laboratory and Technology student of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, lost their lives when a truck ran over the commercial tricycle in which they were travelling to their different destinations.
The truck said to be coming from the Okene end of the highway was said to have suddenly lost control of its brake and the driver in the process of trying to control the vehicle crushed and ran over the tricycles in its front.
While the the Federal University Lokoja confirmed the death of Covenant Omolola Isaac on its official Facebook page, the National Association of Science Laboratory and Technology Students (NASTLES), Kogi State Polytechnic chapter, confirmed the death of Abu Taiwo Abimbola in a statement.
In a statement signed by President of NASTLES, Comrade Akor Caleb Kelvin, the association said:
”It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our cherished member, Abu Taiwo Abimbola, 2023/HSLT/MCB/087, who tragically lost her life earlier today in a road accident along Felele Road, Lokoja.
“This devastating loss has left all of us in shock and deep sorrow.
“Abimbola was more than just a member of our association; she was a beacon of hope and inspiration to everyone around her.
“Her kindness, dedication, and passion for education made her an exceptional part of our community. leaving behind a legacy of love and excellence.
“As we mourn this heartbreaking loss, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and loved ones.
”We pray for strength and comfort for them during this incredibly difficult time.
“In honor of her memory, the association will be organizing a tribute and memorial service to celebrate her remarkable life.
“Details of the event will be shared in due course, and we encourage everyone to join us in paying our final respects.
“TAIWO ABIMBOLA will forever remain in our hearts. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in perfect peace Amen.”
Meanwhile, the corpses of the two students have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.
