Ahead of 2019 general elections, the executive secretary of Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Prince Babatunde Irukera has called on Kogi West youth to step up their game.
Irukera made this known while confirming his participation in the Kogi West Youth Dialogue scheduled for November 25.
The former governorship aspirant noted that the political space in the state is open for youth participation. However, he said there are few critical success factors that youths need to know for their accelerated ascension to position of leadership.
Irukera is expected to present a paper at the Youth Dialogue.
In the same vein, the Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Multilateral Corporation and Special Projects, Hon. Adoga Ibrahim, said the Youth Dialogue is coming up at the right time.
Adoga, who is Kogi State focal person for Multilateral and Donor Agencies, reasoned that Kogi youth will no longer be contented with background roles in the state having tasted leadership opportunity under the current government in the state.
“With the appointment of numerous youth into political leadership position under Governor Yahaya Bello, it will be difficult for any political party to relegate youth in future political engagements in the state.
“Some youths who hitherto see themselves as mere political tools in the hands of veteran, elderly politicians now see themselves as potential Senators, House of Reps members, Commissioners, local government chairmen etc.
“The reality among Kogi youths today calls for a rethink in the way we play politics in the State. No party will survive in 2019 without conscious youth-inclusion policy, ” he said.
The Kogi West Youth Dialogue will hold on Saturday, November 25 at Idrinana Hotels, Lokoja.
