Tragedy was averted on Friday evening when a cement laden truck crashed into a ditch after brake failure along the busy IBB Way in Lokoja, Kogi state capital.

No casualty was recorded in what would have been a fatal accident that occurred around 6:10pm.

The truck, approaching Army Signal from Zone 8 roundabout, struggled to ascend the steep and began to move in reverse direction with oncoming vehicles behind it.

The driver was able to maneuver the truck, crossed the median and crashed inside a ditch on the other lane, right in front of Osese Restuarant, before Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) state command headquarters.

According to an eye witness, Mr Stephen Adeleye of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), it was by divine providence that no lives was lost in the incident.

“A miraculous intervention occurred when a truck careened out of control towards a congregation of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), whose vehicles were parked along the road for an ongoing Crusade nearby.

“However, God intervened, diverting the truck to the other side of the road, sparing the lives of many who would have been affected” he said.

Owner of the restaurant, Hon. Osese Segun Ajijola, commended the truck driver for his expertise, adding that he was able to avert a major accident.
