Traditional Institutions Have Vital Roles to Play in Curbing Insecurity – Lokoja LG Chairman

The Chairman, Lokoja Local Government, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu has called on traditional rulers to join forces with authorities in the fight against insecurity.

Comrade Adamu had convened a security meeting behind closed doors with the traditional rulers from across Oworoland in the last two days.

The meetings which is part of the Chairman’s concerted to bridge the gap between the local government and traditional institutions especially considering the important roles the traditional rulers have to play in the fight against insecurity.

At a debrief, shortly at the end of the meetings, the Council Chairman noted that the traditional rulers have deep knowledge of their communities and can provide intelligence to local government authorities on security threats such as criminal activities or communal conflicts, hence the need to constantly engage with them.

Other aspects of the two day intensive meeting was security collaboration, coordinated vigilante groups, neighbourhood watch, and information flow to formal security agencies and other areas of strengthening community safety.

Also top in the discourse includes ways to further entrench unity among the Oworo people for the overall benefit of the Oworoland and Lokoja LGA.

The meeting had the Olu of Oworo, HRH Alhaji Mohammed Baiyerohi and other traditional rulers including Obaro of Oshokoshoko, the Olu of Apata, the Bajana of Obajana, the Obaro of Omuwa, the Okatama of Jamata.

Others are the Maasi of Agbaja, Eleson of Oworo, Ohiribo Keita of Karara and Eleson of Felele.
