An appeal has gone to male Politicians in Ijumu-Kabba Bunu Federal Constituency to concede the House of Representatives and House of Assembly slots to women in the next dispensation.
The Wife to Kogi State Deputy Governor, Tokunbo Awoniyi, made the appeal at this year’s Ijumu Day celebration in Iyara, Ijumu Local Government Area.
Mrs Awoniyi, lamented a situation in which since 1999, woman of the constituency with their high intellectual and political pedigree have never been elected to positions from the Ijumu- Kabba Federal Constituency, despite the several number of women who are eminently qualified and can hold their own in representation.
She appealed to the men from the constituency to concede the ticket in 2015 to women for fairness and equity as well as to engender sense of belonging.
The Deputy Governor’s wife described women as very trust worthy and can be relied upon when it comes to sincerity, said she will throw her weight behind a woman candidacy come 2015.
According to Mrs Awoniyi, the decision to front women into elective position followed the encouragement from Hajia Halimat Wada, Wife to the State Governor whose pet project, KOWEN, she disclosed is out to make the women folk take their rightful place in socio-economic development in the State.
Mrs Awoniyi, commended the people of Ijumu for their support to the Wada’s administration, urged them to be in the vanguard for quality representation in the next dispensation by electing women into representative offices.
In his speech, the Olujumu of Ijumu, Oba Sumanu, said the day was set aside for the people to appraise socio-cultural efforts geared towards uniting sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora.
