Comrade Usman Okai Austin has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of General Waidi Shaibu as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, calling him “a no‑nonsense officer who will not fail in his assignment.”
Speaking to the media, Okai highlighted Gen. Shaibu’s record as Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), and his leadership of counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast.
“Over three decades, he has earned a reputation as one of the Army’s most experienced and intellectually driven officers,” Okai said.
Okai described the appointment as a “square peg” the right fit for the role and urged maximum cooperation from Nigerians and from other security services.
He stressed that security cannot be left to a single arm of the state and noted that, with a competent director of the SSS, Mr. Tosin Ajaye, alongside capable leadership in the Navy and Air Force, “the time to address the nation’s insecurity is now,” provided there is active cooperation from the public.
Okai concluded by calling on citizens to support the armed forces and all security agencies as they work together to restore and maintain peace and security across the country.
