It is often said that there is time for everything in life. There is a time to be born, a time to grow, a time to explore the world and a time to die. For late Alhaji Yahaya Idris Abbas, there was a time to be born, a time to grow, a time to achieve quality education, a time to excel in civil service, a time to join politics and a time to make sacrifices, statements and put together actions which have a lasting impact on one’s generation and generations yet unborn and ultimately a time to transit to the other side and be celebrated.
Over 20 years ago, it is an ugly head on the people of Lokoja, that moment axe of dead dangled and pew down one among many Lokoja politicians who since the inception of Democracy has been in the affairs of the state contributing to the grow of humanity in Lokoja.
The eagle is a rare bird and each generation they say is blessed with a few. death stroke it, it came around and shook every part of the state, making the shining sun capital to experience a moment of darkness as the political Supreme Commander who at various regime of Late Adamu Attah, Prince Abubakar Audu held various positions in government leaving indelible marks of records achievements.
History has it that the story of how the late Sardauna of lokoja formed the hard line opinion with his peers on kwara and preferred to create our own kogi state. late Sardauna, was the first house of representatives member. aside his vision, was his physical presence and leadership at the point of critical service delivery.
During the creation of kogi state August 1991, the late sardauna became the Captain general that spearheaded the campaign organization, moved round the 21 LGAs of kogi which late Prince Audu first ran in 1991 under the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) created by General Ibrahim Babangida truncated democracy when late Audu was 44. He won and was Governor from 1992-1993
For Alhaji Yahaya Abbas, the title Sardauna of Lokoja was more valued than being a Governor. Sardauna” means a man with a passion of people, a lover of all men,a man who command people by what he does, a man who has sympathy for people he governs and a man who can die for the sake of people.
Alhaji Yahaya Idris Abbas, you were the political generalissimo, your response to the mandatory call of humanity has remain a capital question not only to me but to many Lokoja indigenes as to WHY NOW NOW? But later I was comforted Your demise occurred while after performing one of the obligatory duties enshrined in Islam religion, after coming back from lesser Hajj which is a great reward to anyone visiting the holy land.
I am also comforted you gave back to society what God has given you, now I realised that then it’s time for you to rest that’s why God in his infinite mercies willed it at that time to be with him, you exhausted your God given talents and abilities for the sake of humanity. The summary of your total life is a life in service to humanity.
“Kpako-yankpa” as you are fondly called, you came, you lived, you sow, you pursued, you conquered and contributed well by living the life you were called to live.
You lived a fulfilled life of Philanthropist, you live a fulfilled life of political father to young politicians and you lived a life of purpose to why you were created.
You are a man of destiny bubbling with the zeal to positively impact on your people. Your humility will enthrall you. You are one man whose middle name can be likened to philanthropism.
Sir, you have gone, leaving so many people to missed lots of things from you. Your eccentric words of talking to gathering of people, where you do command respect and suspense the minds of gathered crowd on holding the microphone. Your words are wisdom personify, each time you utter a word it became a pool of knowledge to people especially the political class. We really do missed you, sure we will forever miss you.
Your House is a home to many irrespective of one’s religion, I missed your detribalized nature, I will missed your level of love to all and your religion tolerance, you lived a life for people and died as a great Man.
In your demised, I see a huge gap being created, who can fit in? It’s only God can figure it out for us. God is all knowing,He knows the end from the beginning and the beginning from the end, he is just a master planner, behind the scenes, I am sure God is working out something for the good of everyone in the town.
I still pray for enough fortitude to bear this great lost. To my mother, brother, sisters close relationship, political and business associates be comforted because Alhaji Yahaya Abbas is resting and one day we Shall all meet him and see him in glory form.
Rest well the political generalissimo.
– Abbas Yahaya
