Frontline All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart from Ijumu local government area, Mr Toyin Kamal has commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for terminating the contract of G-Money, a form contracted to do cleaning services for the state, over the company’s failure to pay its staff despite receiving payments from the state government.
Mr Kamal made this known in a chat with journalists in Lokoja, saying other service providers will sit up as the Governor is a no-nonsense man when it comes to the welfare of workers.
“Information at my disposal is that G-Money’s contract has been terminated. After receiving payments from the State Government for its Consultancy, the company has refused to pay its workers. The Governor is a man who believes that the sweat of labourers must not be allowed to dry without reward, hence the immediate termination of his contract.
“With what has happened to G-Money, other service providers will sit up as the Governor will not tolerate any attempt at depriving workers of their wages,” he said.
Mr Kamal hailed the Governor for his courage to be decisive, saying good governance can only be achieved when those in power refuse to “dance to the beats of sentiments”, saying the current administration in the State will not toy with the welfare of the citizens.
Also, a staff of G-Money who spoke with journalists on condition of anonymity said the decision of the Governor was the best in the overall interest of the State.
“We are aware of the fact that the Government has been paying G-Money regularly but he has refused to pay us our salaries. The worst was his audacity to even tell us that the Government had paid him but he won’t pay us. That is a declaration of slavery. It is a sin to put us through cleaning the State capital without paying us,” she said.
