Kindly permit me space on your news platform to congratulate the Asiwaju of Okunland and Balogun of Mopa, Chief Clarence Olafemi Obembe on his well deserved appointment as Chairman, Entertainment Committee for the swearing in ceremony of 40 year old Yahaya Bello.
Those that made the appointment must have considered pedigree, qualification and abilities before arriving at the decision. I give kudos to the decision makers for find Obembe worthy of that lofty position.
In life, we all appreciate promotion, elevation and career advancement but I am not sure the current appointment offered Obembe is forward movement.
A blessed child will start from creche and move on to pre-nursery from where he or she is expected to start primary education. Even if the child fails to gain promotion at any point, progressively, he or she is expected to move on to secondary school then higher institution of learning. I am not sure a blessed child in Junior Secondary School Grade 3 (JSS 3) will be asked to return to Primary 1 for failing JSS 3 examinations or for other shortcomings.
How then do we explain a situation where a University Graduate with First Class Grade in Computer Science was gifted opportunity to serve two terms in the state house of assembly, later became Speaker (Number 3 man in the state), and was acting governor of a state for 3 months become a ‘briefcase carrier’ for every governorship hopeful in the state.
This sad scenario is made worse by the fact that the dramatis personae is the Asiwaju (front runner) of the most educated and sophisticated ethnic group in Kogi state. The Asiwaju is always behind governorship front runners in the state. He left the governorship battle field in the thick of January 2011 night to hold the helm of Jibrin Isa Echocho’s garment in a bid to be Igba keji (deputy). We still remember his similar moves to replicate his usual stunts with late Abubakar Audu. After Audu’s demise, Asiwaju fell behind a new comer, James Faleke who is not even the Asiwaju of Ikeja. Things soon fell apart with Faleke and Asiwaju quickly ported to the new ‘pay-loader’, Yahaya Bello. We thought he was gunning for his usual Igba keji position that has been eluding him but we are wrong! Asiwaju, after reviewing his current capabilities, skill-set and intelligence, has been appointed Chairman, Entertainment Committee for Yahaya Bello’s swearing-in ceremony. This political demotion defies human comprehension!
Something must be wrong somewhere! Our traditional and spiritual leaders must consult and probably ‘ti owo ile booo’ to exorcise the ‘ogun ajo rehin’ that is affecting our beloved son.
All the same, I congratulate His Excellency, Chief Clarence Olafemi Obembe on his recent appointment. At least he won’t be politically idle.
