Suspended Strike; JAC’s 15-Point MoU With Kogi State Government

The 5 months strike actions embarked upon on 31st January, 2017  by Joint Actions Committee of Trade Unions of Kogi State owned tertiary institutions was suspended on 21st June, 2017 at exactly 4.30pm.

After the meeting that started at 9.00am between the Chairmen of governing councils of tertiary institutions, Kogi State government and executives of JAC, tertiary institutions.

The MOU was duly signed by the 3 organs, witnessed by the state NLC.

The summary contents of the MoU are as follows:

  1. All salary arrears of cleared staff till march 2017 to paid immediately

  1. The salaries and arrears of all uncleared staff till march, 2017 to be paid immediately

  1. The salaries and arrears of all omissions till march, 2017 to be paid immediately

  1. The salaries of all cleared staff for the months of april and may, 2017 to be paid immediately

  1. The tax refund for KSU and COE, Ankpa to be paid

  1. The governing council of each tertiary institutions to handle all the unclear cases

  1. The results / reports of the governing council screening exercises be upheld by government

  1. Governing council of each institution to screen 2015/2016 employees on the basis of needs assessment

  1. Government to honour agreements not to implement tax increase (by stopping further deduction )until agreement between government and organised labour are reached

  1. Governing council of each tertiary institution to investigate stale results and  attestation

  1. Government to constitute the governing board for KSUTH, Anyigba

  1. Government to implement 65years retirement age for non teaching staff of polytechnics and COE

  1. All internal problems of each tertiary institutions to be addressed within the shortest time

     and reports their recommendations to the visitor for his consideration and approval.

  1. The internal issues are 18 in numbers

  1. That no staff of the tertiary institutions shall be victimized as a result of the strike actions

The strike is suspended for only four (4) weeks to enable government fulfill their parts

Or the indefinite strike actions suspended today will resume immediately.
