The Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P), has so far employed 4,000 youths in Kogi state, under its Youth Advancement Program which is a component of the state’s SURE-P.
Briefing journalists after the state SURE-P committee meeting in Lokoja, the spokesperson of the committee, Mallam Ali Atabor said SURE-P fund would be channelled into creating youth employment using Agriculture under its Youth Advancement Programme and other agriculture intervention programs.
Atabor added that the fund would also be used to resuscitate the state’s transport corporation through the purchase of buses for the operation of inter and intra-city transport services as well as the building of designated bus stops across the state to serve as loading points for the transport corporation.
He said in order to avert mismanagement as recorded in the past, the new transport system would be run under a public private partnership arrangement in the ratio of 60 to 40, with the government serving only as a regulator.
The committee also reiterated the state government’s commitment to improved sanitation as well as construction of better drainages in the state capital using the SURE-P funds.
He assured the people that the state government would make judicious use of the SURE-P fund for the benefit of the people in state.
