The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Yakubu Oseni has congratulated the people of Kogi State and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for yet another resounding victory recorded by Governor Yahaya Bello and his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja at the Supreme Court.

Senator Oseni who through his Facebook page described the Supreme Court verdict as victory for democracy noted that the mandate given to the duo in the November 16th 2019 gubernatorial election was first of all validated by the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal, affirmed by the Appeal Court and then re-affirmed and sealed by the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The lawmaker who expressed excitement at the trends of the case said it was an affirmation of the collective resolution of the people of Kogi State who having critically assessed the sterling performance of the Governor in the first tenure, decided to give him another chance to do more for the Confluence State.

While calling on the jubilant supporters of the Governor to accord the opposition scintilla of consideration in their celebration, the lawmaker argued that any democracy without opposition or dissenting tunes is tantamount to dictatorship which is globally frowned at.

“It is in this regard that I call on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and the teeming supporters of our dear Governor to celebrate the victory with utmost caution. Members of the opposition parties who sought clarification or redress in the various courts have played their parts in deepening democracy in Nigeria and Kogi State in particular,” he said.

Senator Oseni consequently admonished public office holders to always discharge their duties without being influenced by ethnic or religious factors, a disposition which according to him has earned the Governor and his Deputy resounding victory for second term in office.

“The detribalized stance of Governor Yahaya Bello and his Deputy, Chief Edward David Onoja which was encapsulated in the now popular EBIGO mantra has paid off. Kogi State has once again set an indelible template for leadership recruitment process in Nigeria as leaders are no longer elected/chosen based on tribal, regional and religious factors,” he said as he congratulated the entire people of Kogi State.

Reacting to the legal victory, Kogi State Deputy Speaker and member representing Ankpa 1 constituency, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mohammed congratulated Governor Yahaya Bello and his Deputy, Chief Edward David Onoja over the validation of his election victory by the Supreme Court.

In a statement personally signed by him on Monday, the state legislator said the news of the supreme court verdict did not come as a surprise because of the massive support the Governor received during the November 2019 gubernatorial elections from Kogites of diverse backgrounds.

He noted that the affirmation of the mandate clears the path for GYB/CEDO to settle down in taking Kogi State to greater heights without any distractions.

“The victory was expected because Governor Yahaya Bello has always been magnanimous in victory. That is why I am calling on Kogites, irrespective of party lines, religious and ethnic background to join hands with our Governor for the benefit of all. I am confident that, the state, with the cooperation and prayers of everyone, will experience massive development,” he said.

He assured the Governor, his Deputy and the new direction team of his utmost support and loyalty, in taking Kogi State to greater heights.
