The Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor on Industries and Productivity, Sunday David Oni, has called on foremost ethanol producer, Unicane Industries Limited, to consider indigent youths for employment in the firm.
Oni made the call when he visited the company in Jamata on Tuesday, on the second day of his ongoing tour of industries in the state.
The Governor’s aide, who harped on welfare of industry workers, urged Unicane Industries Limited to prioritize corporate social responsibility within host communities and initiate empowerment programmes for youths in the state.
He applauded Unicane Industries Limited for upholding a good and safe environment.
Responding, the General Manager, Najib Abboud, stated that Unicane Industries has engendered positive relationship with her workers. He added that the firm has a robust relationship with host communities as well.
He explained that the company has a compensational scheme, Group Life License, which is designed for workers and who sustain injuries while on duty.
Abboud confirmed to the Governor’s aide that the company has institutionalized skill acquisition programmes for youths in the host community, as well as structured interventions for schools.
In the second quarter of 2021, Unicane Industries Limited announced the completion of the second phase of its plant expansion in Lokoja, Kogi State. The feat made it the largest ethanol producer in Africa, whilst boosting national sufficiency and export of Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) in Nigeria.
