A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Williams Toyin Akanle has urged Nigerians to keep hope alive as he expressed optimism that Nigeria will be better under the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu despite the removal of the fuel subsidy that has caused untold hardship for Nigerians.
Dr. Akanle stated that things must not continue the way it had been as Nigeria needs a courageous leader like President Tinubu to bring the needed change that will move the country to enviable height.
The APC chieftain made this known while speaking to newsmen in his country home, Makutu-Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State on the sideline of the 20th Memorial Thanksgiving Service of his Mother, Late Mama Janet Akanle.
He enjoined Nigerians to be patient with the President as he will correct the wrong doings of past administrations and lauded President Tinubu for the bold steps taken so far.
“I give him (President Ahmed Tinubu) kudos for taking this bold step, he said let’s face fuel subsidy once and for all and you can see the fallouts. See our neighbouring countries, I saw one border post with more than seven million gerricans because they have made it a market for trading on Nigeria fuel to their own side of the border.
“There is light at the end the tunnel. I believe that things are getting better because there is a direction. Before, we don’t have direction, we were flouting around who is who and we did not know who was in charge for eight years. But immediately President Tinubu assumed office, you already know that there is a new sheriff in town,” he pointed out.
The retired Assistant Director General of Department of State Service noted that though the federal government is on the right track, there’s need to check activities of youths in the area of examination malpractice and cybercrime.
Dr. Akanle faulted the National Orientation Agency (NOA) for not doing enough in the area of value reorientation and tasked the present administration to appoint competent persons into various Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
On the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Kogi State, Dr. Akanle expressed optimism that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct a free, fair and credible election only “if they chose to”
According to him, all eyes are on the electoral umpire to conduct a generally acceptable election, urging them to avoid compromise from politicians.
He also expressed concern over what he called “duplications of database” by different agencies of government, describing it as waste of fund.
