Kogi State government has lambasted commercial banks in the state for demonstrating high level of hypocrisy and unprofessionalism in joining the strike embarked upon by the organised labour in the state.
In a press conference yesterday in Lokoja, the Special Adviser to the state governor on Media and Strategies, Abdulmalik Abdulkareem berated the commercial banks operating in the state whose responsibility is to serve the interest of the general public have allowed themselves to be dragged into labour’s threat and blackmails.
He called on the headquarters of the banks to warn them to desist from involving themselves on issues that is not within the purview of their practice.
“The banks should not allow themselves to be part of the blackmail and treachery by the labour in the state.
“The banks should take into cognisance their primary responsibility of effective service delivery to the general public” he admonished.
On the action of the labour , the Special Adviser disclosed that 21 local government councils in the state have been paid arrears of three-month salaries.
According to him, Ministries, Departments and Agencies have also been paid while the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), Science and Technical Education Board (STEB) and Health Service Management Board are yet to be paid due to some discrepancies uncovered during the screening exercise.
He therefore called on the labour leaders in the state to embrace dialogue, assuring that the governor has a listening ear.
