The Form CF002 of the All Progressives Congress, clearing the three Senatorial aspirants from Kogi state by the National Working Committee of the APC has put to rest the haranguing and dragging of some party stakeholders who should pursue the interest of the party ahead of their own interests.
Comparatively, Kogi East and Central aspirants even though displaying some level of reaction has kept it within the prism of party misunderstanding, but for Kogi West, the avalanche attacks on Senator Smart Adeyemi is disturbing. Very disturbing that one begins to wonder if the politics is a “do or die” affair for anyone.
I have watched the display of maturity and statesmanship coordination displayed by the two term Kogi senator during the occupation of attacks on his personality. He kept mum, showed high level of civility and focus towards his goal.
Senator Smart is not just focused, he is a tireless worker, amiably, Governor Bello who rewards loyalty and participation did not give up on him as his party man in the cacophony of loud noise that is empty of electoral value against his candidature.
Surprisingly, one would wonder. Why can’t people who claim to be working towards improving the lots of their people lead a drivel of unrestricted attacks on their own kinsman using proxies, subtle narratives and open direct attacks to create a statutory of disunity in their own party?
The Okun nation is very educated and operates on a level of democratic mindedness and discipline, however, it is also one of her flaws in political mileage. I say this as a bonafide Kogite, seeking for the growth of our electoral maturity.
For instance, tongues have it that as the Governor leads the New Direction Government in the state as the state political leader, you would find his trusted men such as Hon. Edward Onoja leading the armies for revolution from Kogi East as a political leader, Engr. Abubakar Ohere leads the armies of New Direction foot soldiers from Kogi Central, all with massive support and ceding of loyalty to these leaders, but what about Kogi West?
Most of the time, it is either the Hon. Commissioner for Finance, or the the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly working assiduously to garner support for this stature but receiving destructive criticism, pull-him-downs and other shocking attacks do dwarf the chances of their own people. I could use the individuality of the East in Nigeria against the collaboration of the North and South in the power equation which gives the other regions power over the East because of lack of unity.
If I were an Okun man, amongst the pride of those going to the Senate, Senator Smart Adeyemi is the most experienced. Automatically, he would be leading the other two senators into the red chamber, amazingly, this is the first time Kogi would be having a unified agreement of senators that would be agitating for a better Kogi state rather than bettering their pockets.
Why do we hate leadership so much because of our individuality which is also a variable of political undoing?
Primaries have come and gone. Can the ego battles rest? Would the deliberate effort to seek the party’s candidates change the anything but enforcing of ego and pride of anyone?
Kogi State as a whole has demonstrated a departure from the past. The temperature of the primaries were so suave that one would wonder if this is the Kogi we have always known that carries the reputation of people missing, thugs warring, youths harming themselves, politicians chasing themselves with guns and jazz?
We have triumphed. We have progressed. We have shown the intention to grow, anyone making external destructive movements should be seen as an enemy of the state and progress, seeking to thwart our level of electoral reforms and internal maturity.
For lovers of Kogi state, our support should go towards the party’s choice which was a choice of the voters during the primaries. How can we be distracting those we intend to be rail-reading into office through our supports when there is opposition to battle with in the coming elections?
In the end, Sen. Smart Adeyemi is leading the three wise men into the red chamber under the auspices of “Kogi United Agenda”. We would remain strong. We would look into his leadership coming from a place of experience.
