Social Media, Television Twin Quick Enemies of Societal Values – Bishop Ibenu

Parents have been charged to promote values to secure the future of their children and the nation in general.

Board Chairman, Freedom Faith Secondary School, Lokoja, Bishop John Ibenu gave the charge on Friday at the school graduation, speech and prize giving day held in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

Bishop Ibenu who doubles as the Kogi State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), explained that values is what fuels the emotional bank account of individuals for which they will take actions either for or against in order to protect their emotional gratification.

He called on parents, guardians, religious leaders, government, non-governmental institutions, traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders to emphasize on values in their daily teachings adding that, the bedrock of any society is dependent on the environmental values.

Ibenu identified social media and television as two quick enemies of societal values stressing that, they both tries to unteach what have been held so dearly in the society.

In his remarks, the principal of the school, Mr James Achor, urged the graduating students to work harder in order to achieve success in life.

On their parts, the chairman of the school Parent teachers association Mr Joseph Ejiga and the head boy of the school Alex Adio both submitted that the success story of the school is incomplete without mentioning the efforts put in place by the management and the teachers towards securing a brighter future for their students.

They said the school has continued to maintained it’s stands on zero tolerance to examination malpractice, cultism and other social vices.
