The senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Smart Adeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, confirmed that the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen gave the assurance when he (Adeyemi) met him recently in Abuja. Senator Adeyemi said the minister assured him during the visit that preliminary works on the road project have been concluded by his ministry.
According to him, the minister confirmed that all issues that have to do with the road have been completed by the Works Ministry, adding that the contract is just awaiting the approval of the Federal Executive Council, FEC.
He said: “I have been assured that construction work will commence on the Obajana/Kabba/Ilorin highway before the end of the year. The minister told me that his ministry has done everything needed to be done for the take off of the project and that the contract has been prepared for the attention of the Federal Executive Council. Once the approval is secured in a short while, work will commence on the road in earnest.
“I told the minister that the road is of utmost importance to travellers around Kogi, Kwara and other states of the South. I equally told him that the time has come for the government to lift the burden of Nigerians plying that important highway.”
Adeyemi, however, cautioned political leaders in the area not to politicise the road project, as according to him, federal authorities have taken the necessary steps to fix the highway.
