Hon Shiru Lawal, the chief administrator of Lokoja local government Government. This piece will attempt to evaluate his outstanding aptitudes.
At this critical age of progress in Lokoja local government Area council, all what the capital needs is an evolution in human capital development, to veer it from the land of uncommon New Direction in infrastructural development. There is no doubt as to what the local government needs for the future- a new era of true and concerted development, an era of bold, purposeful and futuristic policies and programmes that can together propel Lokoja local government into a very high pedestal in the comity of capitals in Nigeria. The local government needs a chairman like Shiru with out-of- the box ideas to steer prosperity and human and infrastructural development. Lokoja is very rich by virtue of her privileged share of the proceeds from federal/state allocations. But, how can these translate to sustainable welfare of the people and investments are a question of leadership.The leadership question has been asked for the past months side by side with the chairmanship contenders ahead of the 2018-2019 Elections.
The people are increasingly becoming fed up with recycled politicians who will not bring anything peculiar to the table. In the next political dispensation of Lokoja local government, while governance should look beyond favours and hand-outs, but cohesive development, which will guaranty equal opportunity to all hardworking persons.
The answers have varied widely. However, Hon Shiru Lawal, the current administrator, a Finance guru and a ex-banker have raised the stakes for evaluation of who the cap fits for Lokoja’s future.
The sole of Shiru’s feet fits in nicely in the shoes of 2018-2019 and beyond. He simply comes from a background we need in expert knowledge and practical experience- Sound management of huge resources. His antecedence are flawless- a deep relationship with God, a character of hard work and sound principles, a high reputation of honesty and sincerity, a background in the profit driven and result oriented competitive business world, a pan Lokoja spirit and a generous heart. He comes loaded with ideas and practical solutions. He comes as a bridge for all political blocks to converge. He holds no previous record of political acrimony or vendetta. Like a blank cheque, he represents the future and invites Lokoja People to write whatsoever amount they wish to reap from the future now.
Shiru’s dream is to implement strong, vibrant and innovative policies which enhance societal development, economic growth, empower the working class, bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, alleviate poverty, reduce unemployment, improve health and education, develop small scale businesses, cater for children and the aged, build strong families and provide secure Lokoja local government.
For the local government to take its rightful place and be more relevant in today’s world, it needs bold, inspiring and visionary leadership, devoid of corruption and cronyism, and Shiru is the key to such leadership. Hon Shiru Lawal is honest, trustworthy, scrupulous, conscientious, high-principled, Selfless, contentment, anti-corruption, proper, correct, honourable, upright, upstanding, high-minded, righteous, right-minded, moral, ethical, good, virtuous, just, noble, respectable, decent and all above prudent and one can wonder he is referred to or called by the people as “Talk And Do” .
With Shiru aiming at the affairs, Lokoja will have chosen a leader who is not corrupt, and who will place people over his personal needs. In this world, to be competitive in all aspects, it demands radical socio-economic transformation and shiru with knowledge gathered in this field will usher in the change. Lokoja local government needs in an increase on IGR.
A leader that has a vision for the local government; one that can inspire the people, and one that can be bold to bring development, without mismanagement of the local government resources, cronyism and recklessness in governance. This local government cannot go on doing things as usual. We must elect people who have a passion and commitment for rapid development, as well as the well-being of the people and delivery of this kind of government is Shiru’s vision.
Shiru’s Government will be confident, assertive, and innovative and committed to promoting and defending the interest of the people first. Shiru considers that the people’s interest and development must be placed above our politics. Above all, Shiru is prepared to seek solutions from within, and adopt the philosophies and practices that will deal with the various challenges that the local government faces, and develop ideas to propel our local government towards the best that it deserves, and not just the better. Hon Shiru Lawal will operate an open government that has integrity in its actions and is really good at managing its information. These are the foundations upon which government accountability is built and corruption is reduced. Now just to be clear, integrity in Shiru’s context means that an open government follows the policies that works to establish a culture of integrity amongst its representatives and employees.
As man of high prudence, the strength of mind or spirit enables a man to encounter challenges with firmness, personal braver and heroism is not the strength of the muscles and bones. Being intelligent is the strongest strength or energy needed in winning any battle of life, a good boxer wins with technicalities not with strength,so most a star studded team can always lose their matches if they don’t have good bench to dole out the expertise that will bring goals.
Hon Shiru Lawal is man with that brain strength which will turn around the fortunes of Lokoja local government for the better, for what the local government needs now is not a career politician but a career political-professional symbol, embedded with wisdom that can continue in the uncommon transformation of the New Direction of Gov. Yahaya Bello that has wrought in the State.
The chief administrator is a professional in corporate governance in a trusted hand, and trust is the foundation of sustainable development. Who is therefore a leader for the future? A man who sees tomorrow in today but keeps mum to waits the day of his enthronement. He shows not the act of desperation but adheres to the mission of his first station, working to show himself worthy of promotion and allows his work to propel his promotion, not unnecessary commotion to seize power by hooks or crook.
Shiru Lawal is detribalized leader that can lead Lokoja without seeing ethnic lines of divide. No wonder his friend of more 24 years, Yakubu kupa said;
“I will tell you the truth, Shiru Lawal is one person that you will love to meet and know because if you want to start by looking at his character, he has a reliable character. He is someone that can be trusted. If you talk of intellectual capacity, he has it, his credentials will prove that. For him as an individual, having related with him for over 24 years, I have come to the simple conclusion that he is a friend to be trusted.
We are doing what we are doing because we believe that if you compare the capacity of his boss Gov Yahaya Bello and what he is doing in Kogi State, we will need someone who will march that capacity, so that the performance will not drop even in the local government being the capital.
The expectations of our people are quite high. The cheif administrator, Shiru Lawal to me is someone in Lokoja that should and will be proud of. When you look back at his career, rising from nothing to a banker in a bank not owned by his people is amazing. I will readily recommend shiru Lawal to anyone. And to Lokoja people, I say they will be happy to have him as their leader in the tenure of Gov Yahaya Bello, our very amiable Governor”.
If leadership is about capacity and value, Shiru has the required dosage, he will be the best administrator and chairman ever.
