Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology/Cybercrime, Senator Yakubu Oseni (SYO) has extended his profound congratulations to President Muhammadu Buhari on the affirmation of his electoral victory by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which sat on Wednesday in Abuja.

The lawmaker who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District at the Red Chamber also described the judgement as transparent and a true reflection of the decision of the generality of Nigerians on the 23rd February, 2019.

According to him, the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was at the exact time when the country was in dire need of credible and sincere leader to salvage her out of her multifaceted challenges.

Senator Oseni who reflected on the far reaching achievements of President Buhari-led  administration in the last four years in the areas of security, social intervention schemes and economy urged Nigerians to shun divisive tendencies and strive for nation building by supporting the policies of the government.

Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in its verdict according to the Senator, has affirmed that ‘Buhari is not only qualified but eminently qualified’ to contest in the election having satisfied requirements for the office and issues surrounding his academic qualifications being permanently laid to rest.

It would be recalled that exactly 19 days after President Muhammadu Buhari was declared winner of the February 23 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, filed a petition challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari at the poll.

Atiku and the PDP in the petition asked to be declared the winner of the election. In the alternative, he asked the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to nullify the election and order a fresh one that would be counted in line with the country’s electoral laws.

The petitioner cited ineligibility of APC candidate, over voting and other alleged electoral irregularities. However, after intensive and protracted legal fireworks, a five-man panel dismissed the petition and upheld the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari.
