Senator Sunday Steve Karimi has returned to his hometown of Egbe in Kogi West on a strategic visit focused on community engagement, accountability, and rising security concerns.

During the visit, Senator Karimi paid a courtesy call on the Elegbe of Egbe, Oba Ayokunle Irukera, reaffirming his respect for traditional institutions and acknowledging their critical role in grassroots governance and community development.

The Senator also received residents and stakeholders at his residence, creating an open forum where community members freely expressed their concerns, challenges, and expectations. A major issue raised during the interaction was the growing insecurity in parts of Kogi West, particularly the recent cases of kidnapping that have unsettled residents.

Addressing the issue, Senator Karimi assured the community of his commitment to working closely with relevant security agencies, government authorities, and local stakeholders to strengthen security coordination and restore peace in the area.

He noted that concerns raised during the visit would be escalated through appropriate legislative and security channels, emphasizing that sustained engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders remains central to tackling insecurity across the district.

Community leaders at the meeting urged sustained collaboration between security agencies, traditional institutions, and elected representatives, stressing that lasting peace in Kogi West will require coordinated and continuous action rather than isolated interventions.

Residents welcomed the engagement, describing it as a rare opportunity for direct interaction with their representative and commending the Senator for adopting an inclusive leadership approach.

Reacting to the visit, Kogi Equity Alliance described the engagement as a model of responsive and people-centred representation, noting that effective security solutions must begin with listening to communities and respecting local institutions.

The visit forms part of Senator Karimi’s ongoing constituency outreach aimed at strengthening trust, improving security collaboration, and deepening grassroots representation in Kogi West.
