Senator representing Kogi East, Isah Jibrin (Echocho), has donated 50kg bags of rice and cash to hundreds of widows in the senatorial district.
The distribution, which begins since last week and continues today, saw a large turnout of beneficiaries who expressed gratitude for the assistance during these challenging times.
During, the distribution and presentation of cash, representative of the Senator, Alhaji Danlami Garba, emphasized the importance of supporting widows, who often face economic hardships after losing their spouses.
He said by combining food assistance with cash donations, the senator seeks to enable these women to make choices that best suit their families’ needs, fostering a sense of independence and dignity.
He noted that the donations demonstrated Senator Echocho’s commitment to women empowerment.
“This initiative is part of the Senator’s efforts to uplift vulnerable populations and provide essential support to those in need.
“The donation aimed not only to alleviate immediate food insecurity but also to empower widows by providing them with financial resources.
“Echocho’s initiative on youths and women empowerment programmes in Kogi East focus primarily on education, skills training, and entrepreneurship.
“Addressing the needs of both widows and young people, he aims to create a sustainable support system that encourages self-reliance and community development. This dual approach not only helps those directly affected but also strengthens the prospect of economy in Kogi East, thereby, promoting resilience and hope for a better future,” he added.
