In recent times, many have been said and opined about the person of Senator Dino Melaye but only little or no consideration has often been given to his ideas. Thus, he is been judged by circumstances rather than conviction. Just like the words of Alexandra Hamilton where he said-“those who stand for nothing fall for anything”, if you are living in a world like ours where sentiments govern over ideas, it will be very difficult to understand the issues until you resolve to look beyond your nose. By implication, matters must be corroborated in two perspectives so as to have a moral insight justifiable to whatsoever conclusion.
ust like many beneficiaries of the APC led federal government, distinguished senator Dino Melaye was at the hills of former Nigerian president, Jonathan’s ineptitude a celebrated stock and activist of events which saw to the due dethronement of Jonathan by the opposition APC. During this time, not even over working can cause him an exclusion from the APC’s scheme of events owing to his adept, sound, charismatic and pragmatic prowess to task executions as will be within the confines of Nigerian law. Unarguably because everything seemed as a common vision between him and the APC stakeholders geared toward rescuing Nigeria from the hands of PDP as well as Jonathan who was widely alleged of cluelessness.
However, something was never noticed during this good times because either Nigerians or those who have suddenly found Senator Dino Melaye to be controversial never bordered to understand the person of Senator Dino Melaye. For the records, Senator Dino Melaye’s only footage is God’s love as his political orientation goes beyond partisan lines, religious affiliation, elite interest and ethnic bigotries. To suffice this premise, the unpleasing but ever ebullient senator has over time demonstrated a high standing solidarity for the masses by publicly and privately upholding mass interests which is the ideal requirement of every pragmatic leader. This is most traceable in his pro masses submission against fuel subsidy removal during the Jonathan led government as well as the Buhari/APC led government of Nigeria.
More so, Senator Dino Melaye is a distinguished senator with legislative prudence. He has fought and continued to engage only in activities that will deepen the independence of the Nigerian legislators. He among other things but not limited made a top priority constituency development through construction of boreholes, academic scholarship to Okun students, philanthropic gestures as well as empowering his people(Okun) with skill acquisition programmes. While cynics will not lack issues to raise in discrediting the stupendous efforts of distinguished Senator Dino Melaye during the period under review, his recent award as the Nigerian “Senator of The Year” is enough to end negative speculations about the original Otunba cum workaholic senator.
By and large, there is a great sense in his recent submission at a senate plenary when he said-“if we speak the truth; we will die, if we lie; we will die so I have chosen to speak the truth and die”. The sense in this is not far from the fact that, Nigerians especially legislators at both federal and state level must realize when it is time for politics and when it is time for governance because it is only through this that there will be strong justification of mandates. The beautiful thing about the future is that it doesn’t just come in one day. Daily events are what makes up to form the future and in the end, posterity will only remember us by the legacies we live behind. Our conscience must be kept clean at all time because people are only responsible for their actions while we are responsible for what we understand as well as the judgment we pass on others.
