The time to set the records straight is gradually approaching, we shall refuse to sacrifice another four years of representation at the National Assembly without any direct political connection with the corridor of power or decision making body of the country that can attract the needed development and progress to our constituency.

Some enemy of progress will say Sen. Smart Adeyemi is doing nothing, its either such people do not really understand what representation actually entails or they are being economical with the truth. Go and do your research, most of these people actually had one or two personal issues with Sen. Smart Adeyemi and as a result are misleading others into believing their cooked up wicked propaganda and lies. No personal issues will be greater than our general interest to move forward from our current political slavery, marginalization, and economic decay brought upon us by our four-four years retrogressive zoning arrangement of representation in Okun land.

Change is inevitable, even our leaders who sat down to resolved and agreed on the zoning arrangement will agree with me on this, things will just have to change. Today, we do not have anyone qualified enough to fully challenge our brothers on Kogi gubernatorial seat because we seem to be divided and have also displayed some level of betrayer among ourselves. These are more pressing issues. The advancement and progress of any community largely depend on the ideas and thought of its people.

How thoughtful Benue people were for always voting Sen. David Mark as a senator and eventually made him the longest serving Senate President in Nigeria alive. Its indeed time for BIG IDEAS. Watch our Kogi easterner brothers like bollywood hijacking the senate presidency come 2015 when the position will still be retain in North Central. May God help us all. Putting aside the numerous constituency and welfare development projects delivered by Sen. Smart Adeyemi in the last seven years, there are also so numerous intelligent, well packaged and people-oriented bills/motions sponsored by Sen. Smart Adeyemi on the floor of the Senate that are all geared towards Nation building.

In accordance to section 4 of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, the National Assembly is vested with powers to make laws for the good and development of the federal republic. Such laws are by constitution, is to be by bills and motions.

Initiating laws in form of bills and motions are some of the expected duties of a legislator. Parliamentarians are also expected to contribute immensely during debates to bills and motion on the floor of the senate. In law making process, bills are expected to pass the first, second and third readings after the bill has been forwarded to the house of senate or in other cases forwarded by the executives in case of executive bills. The senate is expected at the second reading to lead a debate on the merit of the bills while the house support or oppose the bill based on the perceived conception of the majority of the house.

Senator Smart Adeyemi has sponsored more than 20 people oriented bills and still sponsoring. Due to space we shall briefly highlight some of the bills and motions.

1. A BILL FOR AN ACT TO ESTABLISH THE FRONTIER BASINS EXPLORATION AGENCY AND FOR OTHER ANCILLARY MATTERS.

This bill received unanimous approval, the bill is meant to create more avenues for oil revenue in the country. SSA primary objectives for sponsoring the bill is to direct attention on how to bake more cake rather than always dwelling on the sharing the already baked ones.

The bill will promote efficient sustainable exploration of hydrocarbons in the frontier Basins of Nigeria. The bill will ensure the federal government look beyond the Niger Delta basins, thereby giving equal opportunity for all parts of the country to contribute to the National coffers through the instrument of oil revenue. This bill will indeed also create employment opportunities across the country.

2. A BILL FOR AN ACT TO MAKE PROVISION FOR THE ASSESSMENT AND COLLECTION OF TAX ON REAL PROPERTY WITHIN THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY AND OTHER MATTERS CONNECTED THEREWITH.

This bill served to enhance access to accommodation by residents of FCT. The bill is to enforce property tax on any building abandoned at the detriment of FCT residents who are endlessly facing the hardship of getting affordable accommodation within the city.

SSA insisted these abandoned properties were proceeds of money laundering and that is why most of the landlords insist on high rent or otherwise abandoned the buildings. This bill will also create job opportunities for the army of unemployed Nigerian youths with thousands of workers employ to collect these taxes.

3. A BILL FOR AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE IMPOSITION OF SPECIAL PUNISHMENTS ON PERSONS FOUND GUILTY OF ECONOMIC SABOTAGE AND OTHER MATTERS CONNECTED THEREWITH.

Without mincing words, this bill when passed into law will see to the final funeral of corruption in Nigeria. In some country around the globe such as China, anyone found guilty of corruption/economic sabotage is made to face capital punishment no matter how highly placed the person may be. Its widely believe that capital punishment will surely put an end to the scourge called corruption that has eaten deep into the fabrics of our nation economy.

This bill will also encourage the ongoing fight against corrupt practices in the country. SSA as a man who abhors corruption sponsored this bill for the bill for the good of the common man.

According to SSA, ”The fact realistically remains that in any society, we cannot have zero corruption but we can have zero tolerance to corruption”.

More of the smartest bills/motions sponsored by Senator Smart Adeyemi will be rolled out for public consumption  in our next publications. The unprecedented level of performance of SSA both on the floor of the house and in constituency development programs has clearly reflected the experience and qualifications required to optimise the purposeful representation of Kogi west beyond 2015.
