SDP National Leaders Urge Kogi to Settle Differences, Mobilise Grassroots

The National leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have called on the leaders and members of the party in Kogi to forget their differences and commence grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The party’s Deputy National Chairman, Abdul Isaq, gave the advice when he received leaders and aspirants from SDP Kogi chapter at the party’s National Secretariat on Friday in Abuja.

Isaq said no party could win election in free and fair contest without adequate grassroots mobilisation.

He said: “If you mobilise the grassroots you can start counting your votes.”

He called on the state party leaders and aspirants to represent the party well in Kogi, saying SDP was not a party of thugs or violence.

Isaq said what was witnessed during the last state constituency by-election in Kogi was not encouraging and should not be repeated.

The National Secretary of SDP, Shehu Gabam, urged the state chapter of the party to extend “hand of love” to party members and those in opposition parties.

Gabam said: “I hope you have put to an end the turbulence in Kogi.

“It is now left for you to do what is right to get the deserved victory for the party in Kogi.

“I urge you to put aside your differences. What everybody is looking forward to is election victory.”

He pledged that the party’s National leaders were ready to work with aspirants at all levels for successful contest in 2019.

Responding on behalf of the aspirants, a former Minister of State for Interior, Humphrey Abba, said the state chapter of the party had resolved the differences among its members and were now united, “with formidable executives”.

Abba said: “One thing that has been of concern to us is that our state will need formidable executive before the aspirants become candidates.”

He commended the National leaders of the party for their interest and intervention in the affairs of state chapter of the party.

He expressed optimism that the SDP would made impact in the 2019 general elections.
