The former Chief Whip of Kogi State House of Assembly and Galadima of Koton Karfe, Hon. Saidu Akawu Salihu (SAS) has won the ‘Architect and Promoter of Peace’ award by Policy and Lawmaker Magazine.
According to the publisher of the magazine, Prince Friday Ogungbemi, Akawu, who was the deputy campaign director of Prince Abubakar Audu organization in 2015, won the award based on his sterling contributions to human and societal development.
He pointed out that the management of the magazine considered the recipient’s contributions to the promotion of peaceful co-existence in Kogi state.
Ogungbemi said several parameters were considered before final decisions were taken such as commitment, patriotism, consistency, honesty and achievements.
According to him; “Hon. Saidu Akawu Salihu truly fulfilled all the parameters and deserved the award”.
Speaking at the award ceremony, the Chief Administrator of Kogi Local Government Area, Barrister Tanko Musa Osuku said the award was a unique way to celebrate a leader, a traditional title holder of repute, a peace setter, honest and silent achiever.
He described Akawu as a political tactician, benefactor and a reputable leader in the politics of Kogi Local Government Area.
The Chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC) Elders Forum, Alhaji Isah Shuiabu, said the excitement in him could not be expressed in words, saying that Hon. Akawu is a man of honour and great intellect. He noted that the huge crowd of personalities that graced the occasion was a testimony to how well the people love him (SAS).
Speaking at the occasion, Hon Nababa described Hon. Akawu as a leader and peace maker whose concerns for the downtrodden masses knows no bound.
“There are many who have passed through the turbulence that my leader went through but didn’t live to tell their stories. But the Galadima of Koton Karfe, a stabilizer, went through a tunnel of fire and came out stronger and bigger than his accusers. He remains a hero to me and his entire political family in Kogi – Lokoja Federal constituency and everyone in the state believe that he is an architect of peaceful co-existence in the state,” he said.
The carnival-like award ceremony turned out to be a great political gathering with creme-de-l’çreme in attendance. The former Speaker and member representing Lokoja 1 constituency, Rt Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, all eleven APC Chairmen from Kogi Local Government, former Executive Chairman Kogi Local Government Council, Hon. Ohinoyi Shuiabu, Hon. Zakari Osewu, Alhaji Ahmed Usman, Chairman SAS Organization, serving and former lawmakers and a host of others were in attendance.
The award recipient, Hon. Akawu was a top contender to the throne of the Ohimege Igu of Koton Karfe and a well respected politician in the state.
