ROUNDTABLE DIALOGUE ON A BILL FOR A LAW TO ESTABLISH KOGI STATE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION AND OTHER MATTER CONNECT WITH (2018).
Introduction
Youth Advocacy Cluster (YAC) is a coalition of more than 8 youth groups and youth focused organizations who work to advance youth development and amplify the voices of youths and issues that affect them this coalition is anchored by Voice of Youth Initiative (VOYI) a youth focused Non Governmental Organization which seeks to redefine the role and contribution of youth in the development and governance processes in the state. Thiscoalition has been receiving supportfrom Participation Initiative for Behavioral Change in Development (PIBCID) / Actionaid Nigeria.
Youths in Kogi state form the highest demography in the state, a strategic master plan for the economic Empowerment of youth initiative highly necessary there is need to have critical stakeholders to make commitment that is sustainable towards young people in the state, in this regard that is why we are organizing a roundtable dialogue tagged: “A BILL FOR A LAW TO ESTABLISH KOGI STATE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION” to further strengthen our advocacy to engage the members of kogi state house of assembly to see reasons to pass the bill into law. This bill is sponsored by the deputy majority leader Hon Ahmed Muhammed state House of assembly, with other 6 members Co Sponsored, this bill ensures that youths are fully engage in the economic development of the state. This bill will bring about partnerships between the state Government and International Donor agencies to fund youth development programs and activities in areas of capacity building, entrepreneurship, sports, agriculture, technology, its will reduce all forms of radicalism and violence extremism in kogi state because it will create a platform for value re orientation among the Youth on peace and security above all it will solve unemployment challenges and other social vises. This bill has gone through the first reading and second reading.
Our Aim of this roundtable dialogue on Kogi Youth development commission Bill is to further strengthen our advocacy on the Enactment of this bill into law at the state house of assembly. This is part of our series of engagements with stakeholders after the first reading and second reading.
The meeting will build on kogi youth development Law. For Sustainable youth development and seeking political /public good will for members of the state legislators to pass the bill into law and how can we convince the governor to assign to the bill as state law.
Justification
The meeting is convened against the ardent need for key stakeholders working on youth development and Empowerment programs to further strengthen their commitment towards advocating for this Bill by engaging the state legislators to see reasons to pass this bill into law
It will discuss strategies and modalities that will be use to further Advocate for the Enactment of this law.
It is expected that the recommendation from this meeting will assist us to better plan ahead of the public hearing. A major components of this roundtable dialogue is the panelists session which will open discussion with the legislative arm of the state government, Executive arm, international development partners, civil society organizations CSOs working on youth development issues, Youth Group, to consolidate their position, support to proffer integrated strategies for the Enactment of this bill.
We believe that the Dialogue will Increase support for the passage of this bill by the state house of assembly.
