Suspected armed robbers Tuesday laid siege to Itakpe/Osara along Okene-Lokoja road dispossessing travellers of their belongings in the traffic gridlock in the operation that lasted for hours.
Also, three vehicles had a head on collision following attempt by some some drivers to beat a retreat.
Travelling bags were seen littering the expressway after their contents had been disposed of while a good number of passengers of the unfortunate vehicles reportedly took refuge in nearby bushes while the ransacking of the automobiles lasted.
A villager, Suleiman Oyibo, told The Guardian that robbery on that axis of the road has become a daily affair.
“The robbers have been operating here as if it has become their duty post. This was how we were stranded here yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday), they have caused multiple accident to happen.”
The Guardian checks revealed that armed robbers have in recent times taken over major highways in Kogi State, laying ambush for unsuspecting innocent travellers as well as killing, maiming, terrorising and dispossessing them of their valuables.
It was further gathered that the Abuja-Lokoja- Okene highway is most notorious as dozens operate freely on a daily basis without any challenge from security agents.
Lokoja-Itobe-Anyiba road is another dreaded road where the men of the underworld operate with ease even in broad day light.
According to reports, not fewer than than eight person have been have been killed in various robbery attacks across the state in the past one week with scores still recuperating from injuries arising therefrom.
