The present governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, must be commended for doing a little better with the increment of the minimum wage of the state to N72,500 which is a clear and systematic departure from the past administration of the minimum wage payments in the country by past governor’s of states in the country which struggled and even argue with the workforce in their states on the practicability and even sustainability in the payments of wage increments in the country.

To those who though the young and able governor of Kogi state, is not committed to the over all development of the state, the recent declaration by the governor, Alhaji Uthman Ododo that the minimum wage of the state is now to be N72,500 is surely one of their answers. This is very commendable against the background that the economic situation in the country has really affected the purchasing power and overall welfare of the people.

The almighty Federal government recently after a long and tough deliberations and negotiations with the Nigerian labour Congress recently proposed a bill to the national assembly which was subsequently debated and passed by both Chambers of the national assembly which approved the sum of N70,000 as the new minimum wage in the country.

This administration of Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo of Kogi state is really showing in many ways that it cares about it’s people and in particular the state workforce. The governor at the Advent of his administration has promised that the well being of the people is of utmost importance to him and he would leave no stone unturned in making sure that the welfare of the people becomes a cardinal objective. By quickly when other states in the federation are just setting up committees to look at the practicability and sustainability of paying the approved national wage, he is fulfilling his promises to the people which states that “his administration will serve as the beginning of the end and the end to bad governance in the state”.

Kogi state is in good hands and all it needs is for the people and in particular it’s workforce to aggregate and double it’s efforts by working assiduously hard and in doing this they will be reciprocating the good gestures of the governor in making the state one of the best in the country.
