The Youth Leader of Kogi State Chapter of the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Amb. Ahmed Suleiman MAS, has urged Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to prioritize revitalizing technical education in the state.

Speaking after the monthly meeting of the youth wing of MBF in Lokoja on Tuesday, Amb. Suleiman said technical education will in no small way contribute significantly to the development of Kogi state.

He said the call became necessary given the positive impact technicians world over are having in the present day technology-driven societies.

The Youth Leader maintained that the revitalized technical schools will also serve as a feeder to the Confluence University of Science and Technology in Osara, Kogi State College of Education Technical in Mopa as well as other related institutions.

He cited the instances of the growing industrial establishment springing up in Kogi state and across Nigeria, adding that these firms requires the services of the trained technicians to run and maintain the machines in the various factories.

“So, it has become imperative to expend productive energies into bringing back to life some of the moribund or abandoned technical schools in Kogi state.

“The focus on technical education aims to equip Kogi’s youth with skills needed to thrive in various sectors, contributing to the state’s economic growth and development as well as enabling gainful self reliance.

“Ongoing plans by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to recruit more teachers is commendable. However, we appeal that technical teachers in their numbers should be considered in the course of the recruitment exercise. As an education friendly Governor, the passion to drive the initiative is there already, all that is required is the needed action to trigger it on,” he said.

The MBF youth wing applauded Governor Ododo for his proactive methods in tackling security challenges in the state.
