Members of Basic Education Staff Association of Nigeria (BESAN), Kogi state chapter, have made an appeal to Governor Usman Ododo to return the accounting department in local government across the 21 LGAs in the state.
BESAN members, made up of mainly primary school teachers, made the appeal during a meeting held in Lokoja, the state capital, on Monday.
They said many of their members experience a lot of problems in respect of their salaries, lamenting that when some of them get their salary alerts they later discovered that their account have been re-debited.
BESAN State Secretary, Comrade Akinlabi Tope Adebayo, noted that “in fact, as we are speaking now majority of the affected workers who were affected have visited some of the Access bank located within and outside Kogi state. But the worst of the situation is they have no genuine place to lodge their complains.
“Many have visited SUBEB and even the Education office at the local government but the arbitrary deduction have continued to increase on daily bases.
“It was on this note we are appealing to our God fearing Governor of Kogi state to help us to return our account session back to the local government so that the teachers can gain access to those who prepared their salaries and if there is any challenge they can easily get it rectified.
“Since the teachers does not know those who prepare their salaries, they have no knowledge about where and who to run to whenever they find themselves at the negative side of the story.”
BESAN members thanked the governor for the increment made in their salaries and beseeched the governor to do more by making their salaries to be 100%.
