Recent investigations have brought to light a significant discrepancy regarding the status of Hon. Justice S. A. Amobeda, a judge of the Federal High Court. Contrary to earlier reports suggesting that Justice Amobeda had refused to honor a transfer order to Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, the findings indicate that he was never officially transferred from Kano.

The investigation delved into the recent postings of judges within the Federal High Court, which were communicated in a circular from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John T. Tsoho, dated August 9, 2024. The circular aimed to clarify and correct previous postings made on July 12 and July 22, 2024.

According to the detailed posting list, Justice Amobeda was initially posted to Lokoja, Kogi State, as per the directive dated July 12, 2024. However, subsequent instructions in the circular mandated that he, along with several other judges, remain at their respective postings. The list of judges affected includes:

1. Hon. Justice M. G. Umar (formerly posted to Kano)
2. Hon. Justice R. M. Aikawa (formerly posted to Katsina)
3. Hon. Justice S. M. Shuaibu (formerly posted to Awka, Anambra State)
4. Hon. Justice Evelyn Nmasinulo Anyadike (formerly posted to Warri, Delta State)
5. Hon. Justice Isa Hamma Adama Dasen (formerly posted to Osogbo, Osun State)
6. Hon. Justice S. A. Amobeda (formerly posted to Lokoja, Kogi State)

The circular explicitly states that these judges are to continue serving in their current locations, thus clarifying that Justice Amobeda’s transfer to Kogi State was effectively annulled.

The Chief Judge’s directive highlights the importance of adhering to judicial orders and ensures that all judges are aware of their current postings. It also underscores the complexities involved in judicial transfers and the necessity for clear communication within the judiciary.

As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for the legal community and the public to stay informed about the implications of these postings and the operational dynamics within the Federal High Court. The integrity of the judiciary relies heavily on the accurate dissemination of information and adherence to established protocols.

This revelation not only clears up the confusion surrounding Justice Amobeda’s status but also emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability in judicial postings and transfers.
