Ahead of next month’s party primaries, Bisi Awoniyi, aspirant for House of Representatives in Yagba Federal Constituency, Kogi State, at the weekend,  met formally with her prospective campaign coordinators in the 34 electoral wards and three councils in the constituency, namely Yagba West, Yagba East and Mopamuro local government areas.
Awoniyi,  former Chief Operation Officer, Bicourtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport, MMA 2, Lagos and daughter of late Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Chairman, Chief Sunday Awoniyi is contesting on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Speaking with reporters at a gathering of party faithfuls in Egbe, Yagba West Council, Awoniyi disclosed that the purpose of her visit was to familiarize with party executives at the ward and local government levels and formally meet her campaign coordinators following the successful conduct of SDP Congresses in the state. She said the exercise, which took off in Yagba West would be replicated in Yagba East and Mopamuro.
According to her, she decided to meet first with the executives as a mark of respect being authorities at their various ward and local government levels before taking the campaign to the people in their domains.
She expressed optimism that she would win the election.
“After the congresses I decided to come and formally introduce my self to local government executives and also to meet with women leaders at the ward and local government levels and also to introduce women leaders in Mopamuro to women leaders in Yagba West”, she said, adding” I seized that opportunity to sit formally and interact with those that will act as my coordinators for the coming election. We decided to start from Yagba West, we are going to replicate the same thing in Yagba East and Mopamuro”.
On her chances in the election, she responded that, “Bisi Awoniyi is an optimist in everything she does. I have never been a pessimist in life and I cannot see my self thinking I cannot make it.  For me to come out to say I am running for anything it is because I know my chances are very high. It is a forgone conclusion and I am happy at the response I got from the people.
He commended SDP leader in the state, former Minister of Police Affairs, Hon Humphrey Abah for his contributions towards the popularization of SDP in Kogi State, saying the sacrifices of the governorship hopeful has made things easier for aspirants on the platform of the party.
“Do I have a godfather? Yes,  my godfather is God Almighty. But I also want to give credit to whom credit is due. SDP, the way I see it today, I will say a very big thank you to Hon  Humphrey Abah. With all honesty, he has done a lot to ginger this party to this level in Kogi State. He has been very supportive, not to a particular aspirant, but SDP as a party. The extent to which he has done, to be candid, has made the work of we aspirants a lot easier and a lot cheaper”.
