The attention of the Presidential Campaign Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDPPPC) in Kogi State has called for the immediate release of former chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Oladele John Nihi.
The spokesperson of PDPPPC, Comrade Usman Austin Okai, in a statement, warned Kogi state government to release Nihi and other incarcerated opposition members in the state to forestall unpleasant reactions.
Okai said the timely warning is necessary before caution is thrown to the wind.
“Our attention has been drawn to the arrest and detention of Mr Oladele John Nihi by the security operatives working for the ruling APC government in the state. We are convinced that the latest arrest in not unconnected with the renewed strategy of intimidating opposition, by the ruling party as the election approaches.
“It is unfortunate that APC and its leadership in Ijumu Local Government will take to harassment and intimidation of innocent individual as a convenient alibi to ignominiously cover their grossly ebbed popularity.
“We wish to give a timely warning for the release of Mr Oladele and other incarcerated PDP faithfuls before caution is thrown to the wind.
“We wish to call the Inspector General of Police and the authorities of the Nigerian Police Force in Kogi State, to wade in to this matter in the interest of peace,” he said.
Nihi was beaten up and arrested by men of the Nigerian Police Force on Monday at Naomi Hotel in Okoro Gbede. He still in police detention.
