The attention of the Yagba East Local Government Council has been drawn to an article titled “Yagba East Insecurity: When Leaders Choose Denial Over Duty” written by Mr. Oladapo Mikky. While we appreciate every citizen’s right to express concern over issues affecting our beloved Local Government, it is important to set the record straight and place the conversation within the bounds of truth, responsibility, and collective commitment to peace.

First, let it be categorically stated that the safety and security of lives and property in Yagba East remain top priorities for the present administration under the leadership of Hon. Joshua Dare. From day one, the Chairman has consistently engaged with security agencies — the Police, local vigilantes, traditional rulers, and community leaders — to ensure a coordinated response to emerging threats. Security meetings are not media stunts; they are serious engagements that happen regularly and discreetly to protect intelligence and the lives of those involved.

It is unfortunate that some commentators choose to politicize security matters that require unity and collaboration. Insecurity is a national challenge, not peculiar to Yagba East alone, and no leader — no matter how proactive — can singlehandedly solve it without the cooperation of the people. The Chairman has always emphasized that security is a collective responsibility, requiring citizens to be vigilant, share credible information, and work hand-in-hand with constituted authorities.

The administration has, within available resources, supported the vigilante groups, improved communication channels among communities, and facilitated joint patrols across flashpoints including Ilafin, Odo-Ogbe, and Ilotin. When incidents occur, the Council does not fold its arms — it acts, coordinates, and supports response measures. The Chairman’s office remains open to every resident who has genuine concerns, information, or suggestions on how to strengthen our collective safety.

We therefore call on well-meaning indigenes, community heads, and opinion leaders to rise above blame and partisanship. The times call for partnership, not polarization. Together, we can build a Yagba East where peace, progress, and prosperity are shared realities.

Hon. Joshua Dare remains dutiful, responsive, and responsible — a leader who listens, acts, and cares. What our Local Government needs now is not sensational criticism, but the cooperation of every son and daughter of Yagba East to make our communities safer and stronger.

Let us unite to build the Yagba East of our dreams — where leadership and followership walk hand in hand toward lasting peace and development.

– Hon. (Dr) Joshua Dare
Executive Chairman, Yagba East LGA, Kogi State
