Senator Dino Melaye escaped what looked like another assassination attempt on Monday while addressing people protesting against his attempted recall from the Senate.
The Lokoja protest went peacefully in front of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja until armed youths stormed the venue and started shooting. Protesters and journalists scampered for safety.
The gunmen emerged from the NATACO end of the road and started shooting which resulted in the death of about 2 persons. The attack lasted for 30 minutes resulting in serious traffic along Lokoja-Abuja highway. In a series of tweets, Melaye also confirmed the attack saying his vehicle was shot at.
A frontline armed youth reportedly opened fire at Policemen who were there to provide security for the peaceful protest. Returned fire fell the armed youth.
The number of casualties are yet to be confirmed but reports coming suggests two persons lost their lives in the process of disrupting the protest.
