A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state, Dr. Akwu Peter has debunked reports that he has stepped down his gubernatorial ambition for his co-aspirant, QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman.
In a statement sent to Kogireports on Wednesday, Dr. Akwu described the publication a ploy to tarnish his hard earned reputation.
“My submission is to my party PDP and not to QS Aminu. The entire publication is untrue, maliciously conceived and highly unpatriotic. My appeal to all my supporters in all the 21 local government areas of the state, friends and believers of all that I stand for is to disregard this satanic publication,” he said.
Reacting to the reports, the campaign office of QS Aminu distanced itself from the controversial reports.
Speaking on behalf of the campaign office, Hon. Ocho Baba blamed fifth columnists for the attempt to cause bad blood among PDP aspirants.
“The Aminu Abubakar Suleiman Campaign Organization note with displeasure a misleading headline about a PDP Gubernatorial aspirant with profound respect in the person of Dr. Peter Bala Akwu who has been erroneously portrayed to have stepped down for Alhaji Aminu A. Suleiman as a reaction to resolutions reached at a meeting between the National Working Committee of the PDP and aspirants jostling for the PDP ticket to Lugard House in Kogi State.
“We want to state clearly without equivocation that the headlines are quite misleading and do not represent the true picture of what transpired.
“The AAS Campaign Organization has been engaged in bridge building negotiations and alliances from the word go. Our principal appreciates the fact that we have a common goal and that is to salvage Kogi State from its present predicament. This ultimate objective will remain an uphill task if we proceed into the contest with a divided house. It is in furtherance to this line of thought that channels where open between Dr. Peter Bala Akwu and Alhaji Aminu A. Suleiman and they went into an understanding. It was only a coincidence that his decision to step down coincided with the meeting of aspirants and the NWC of the party. For us, there couldn’t have been a better time for such announcements. We consider Alhaji Aminu A. Suleiman and Dr Peter Bala Akwu as both competent and vibrant aspirants capable of taking Kogi to greater heights,” he said.
He urged supporters and the general public to disregard the reports.
