The re-arrest of Comrade Austin Okai after he was granted bail by a Magistrate Court in Lokoja as been alleged to be a planned script to keep him out of circulation forever.
This allegation was made known to Kogireports in a press statement signed by the convener of Igala Vanguard, Engineer Lawrence Akpa.
Igala Vanguard called on the Inspector General of Police and other relevant agencies to urgently review the “unholy romance between security agents in Kogi state and government officials”.
Akpa alleged further that Kogi state governor and his aides are engaged in unconstitutional clampdown on critics and opposition in the state. He warned that the dangerous path been followed by Kogi state governor is capable of igniting ethnic and civil crises as well as overheat the polity.
He expressed concerns on Okai’s safety in police custody during the long Easter break. He said rumors are rife that there are plans to poison Okai.
Describing the Okai episode as the darkest moment in the state, Akpa called on civil society groups, activists and patriotic leaders in the state to raise their voices against the undemocratic, tyrannical manifestations in the state.
