The problem of unfulfilled electoral promise has caused many electorates to be disenchanted about the nation’s democracy and its attendant benefits. That could be one of the reasons why our elections at all levels in this country continue to witness low voters’ turn out in recent time.
Notwithstanding the disappointment, some politicians are not only committed to fulfilling the promises made to the people during electioneering campaigns but make strenuous effort to ensure that the well being of the people of their constituencies receive a key boost. It is in line with this that the people of Ankpa ii State Constituency would not forget Hon Rabiu Momoh Alfa representing the constituency for his welfare programme and provision of basic amenities for the people since he was elected.
Hon Rabiu was the first elected representative in the state to present the cheque of his constituency project to his people in a town hall meeting, urging the people from the 8 wards that make up Ankpa ii State Constituency to identify their most pressing needs, setting up a committee to see to the execution of the needs for the people.
For the people of Okaba in Ojokwu ward, it has been continuous encroachment of their school land by the settlers; hence the means to stop the encroachment was their worry. Today, over 200 metres perimeter fence has been constructed by Hon Rabiu Isiaka Alfa at Okaba Secondary School. Speaking on this development, a community leader Alh Tijani Abubakar said they were grateful to Hon Rabiu Alfa noting that the fencing of the school is a covenant the Assembly member had made with the people of Okaba. “I remember vividly during his campaign tour to Okaba. We told him that the only thing we want from him was the construction of the fence to put an end to the encroachment. He said he was going to do it before the end of his tenure and today as you can see, that promise has been kept. We will continue to support him for his good leadership in the State House of Assembly”.
The people of Ojokwu I and II have been conducting their market under the sun in an open field for a long time now, exposed to all forms of environmental hazards. This condition has lead to the low volume of trade in the area as a result of unfriendly weather condition such as rainfall which normally leads to total shutdown of business activities during its season with the destruction of perishable food crops. As demanded by the people during the constituency town hall meeting, Hon Rabiu has constructed two blocks of open market stores at Ojokwu I and II market centre.
Similar gesture was extended to the people of Inye of Enjema ward. Speaking on behalf of the people of Ojokwu ward I and II, Alh Abu Suleiman described Hon Rabiu as a leader who keep to his promise. He said “we had appealed and pleaded to the past Assembly member representing Ankpa ii to assist us in the construction of this market but he could not do it despite the fact that he came from Ojokwu community here. What Rabiu has done has given us more reason to trust politicians again and to believe the APC-led government. We are happy and will always stand by him”.
Other projects embarked upon by Hon Rabiu include; renovation of a classroom block at Government Secondary School, Inye, Construction of borehole at Enjema, renovation of classroom block at Ika.
Hon Rabiu said his next project would be mega empowerment of the people of his constituency centred on women and youths, artisans, traders, farmers and indigent members of the society.
