Factional State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Usman Ogohi Samuel, has urged the public to disregard rumours of election into offices in the council.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Ogohi described the purported elective congress or convention as mere social media propaganda.

He said the misleading reports are desperate attempts to force legitimacy on an illegal gathering of friends to share biscuits.

He alluded to a case concerning the leadership and internal affairs of the NYCN Kogi State Chapter that is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction, which has ordered all parties to maintain status quo pending the final determination of the suit- adjourned till October 2025 for continuation.

“It is, therefore, not only unlawful but contemptuous for anyone to parade themselves as elected leaders or to announce a convention that lacks both legal backing and procedural integrity. A legitimate NYCN leadership cannot emerge from illegality and impunity – you can’t put nothing on something and you expect it to stand.

“We express deep disappointment in the Commissioner for Youth, Hon. Monday Anyebe and all appointees of his Excellency Alhaji Usman Ododo who have chosen to misinform the government and mislead the people.

“Their actions are not just dishonest, but also a betrayal of the confidence and goodwill reposed in them by the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

“Rather than promote peace, unity, and due process, they have chosen the path of manipulation, falsehood, and political recklessness,” he said.

Ogohi said NYCN Kogi State Chapter remains committed to the principles of justice, youth inclusion, and the rule of law.

He called on well-meaning youths, civil society actors, and the media to remain vigilant and support only processes that are grounded in legality and fairness.
