Ekinrin-Adde, our beloved hometown, is a beacon of hope, resilience, and organic growth. Nestled in the heart of Okunland, Ekinrin-Adde is the natural leader of Ijumu Kingdom, and has always been a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together, united by a shared vision. With a history rooted in self-help and a culture steeped in mutual respect and hospitality, Ekinrin-Adde stands tall as a testament to the power of unity. Today, we are called upon once again to preserve this legacy.
For over 150 years, Ekinrin-Adde has been a fusion of federating communities, working hand in hand to build the town we cherish today and a town that has become an envy for all other sorounding communities in Okunland. Our history is one of shared struggles, shared victories, and shared aspirations. Together, we have created a legacy of mutual respect, understanding, and unwavering commitment to progress and development. Yet, as we stand at the threshold of another chapter in our community’s journey, we are reminded that this unity, though robust, is not invulnerable.
In recent times, our collective resolve was tested when divisive elements sought to disrupt the fabric of our unity. These individuals attempted to sow seeds of disaffection, undermining the bonds that have held us together for over a century. Their actions were a stark reminder of the fragility of peace and the constant vigilance required to protect it. However, thanks to the wisdom of our elders, the courage of our leaders, and the collective voice of reason among our people, these attempts were thwarted. Unity triumphed, as it always should.
At the heart of Ekinrin-Adde’s development and growth is the Ekinrin-Adde Community Development Association (EACDA). For over five decades, this body has been a driving force for progress, working closely with the traditional council under the exemplary leadership of the Olu Adde of Ekinrin-Adde and the Akinrin of Ekinrinland. Together, they have mobilised all subjects either resident or diasporic towards the positive transformative agenda of Ekinrin-Adde, ensuring sustainable development while fostering a sense of belonging among all residents.
As the tenure of the current EACDA executives comes to an end today, the December 26, 2024, we stand at a critical crossroads. The decisions we make now will determine the trajectory of our community for years to come especially for the next two years in the least (or even four years). This election is not just about choosing new leaders; it is about safeguarding the unity and progress of Ekinrin-Adde.
Regrettably, some individuals who clandestinely sought to destabilize our community appears to have regrouped. They have formed an alliance, cloaked in deceptive slogans and false promises, with the sole aim of securing key positions within the EACDA. Their agenda is clear: to advance sectionally motivated interests and agendas at the expense of the collective good. If allowed to succeed, this would be a devastating setback for our community, undoing years of hard-won progress and threatening the harmony we hold dear.
This is not the time for complacency. As proud sons and daughters of Ekinrin-Adde, we must rise to the occasion and protect what we have built together. We must reject divisiveness in all its forms and ensure that those who seek to exploit our community for selfish gain do not prevail. Instead, we must support candidates who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to unity, peace, and inclusive development.
The strength of Ekinrin-Adde lies in its diversity. Our federating communities have thrived not in spite of their differences but because of them. Each group brings unique strengths, perspectives, and traditions that enrich our collective identity. To undermine any part of this fabric is to weaken the whole. We must elect leaders who understand this, who respect the contributions of every community, and who are dedicated to fostering mutual respect and collaboration.
This election is an opportunity to reaffirm our values. It is a chance to show that Ekinrin-Adde will not be swayed by empty rhetoric or divisive tactics. We must stand firm in our commitment to progress, choosing leaders who prioritize the collective good over personal or sectional interests.
Our ancestors laid the foundation of this community with their blood, sweat, and tears. They envisioned a town where unity and mutual respect would prevail, where every child could dream of a brighter future, and where progress would be a shared goal. It is our duty to honour their legacy by ensuring that Ekinrin-Adde continues to thrive as a model of unity and development.
Therefore, let us not be deceived by those who seek to manipulate us. Their actions in the recent past have shown their true intentions, and their current alliances only confirm their divisive agenda. We must look beyond superficial promises and focus on the track record, integrity, and vision of each candidate.
The future of Ekinrin-Adde is in our hands. Let us vote for leaders who will build bridges, not walls; who will prioritize progress over politics; and who will work tirelessly to ensure that every corner of our community benefits from development. Let us choose unity over division, peace over conflict, and progress over stagnation.
In every election, the true power lies with the people. This is our moment to shape the future of Ekinrin-Adde, to protect the legacy of our forebears, and to pave the way for generations yet unborn. Let us rise to this occasion with wisdom, courage, and a deep sense of responsibility.
Together, we have overcome challenges before, and together, we will overcome this one. Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to unity and progress, ensuring that Ekinrin-Adde continues to shine as a beacon of hope and resilience.
The choice is ours. Let us make it wisely. For the sake of our past, our present, and our future, let us vote for unity, for peace, and for the continued greatness of Ekinrin-Adde.
Long live Ekinrin-Adde! Long live our unity! Long live our progress!
