The Holy Bible describes prophets as spiritual madmen, men set apart, consumed by the fire of God’s word (Hosea 9:7). These were men who lived under a burden, not for personal gain but for the salvation of souls. But today, many prophets are no longer heavenly pointers; instead, they have become manipulators, using their gifts to steal, rob, and deceive. They fornicate, commit adultery, and justify their actions with false doctrines. Some collect powers from native doctors to enhance their prophetic abilities, making a mockery of the sacred calling. Instead of standing as messengers of truth, they now lead people astray, causing many to abandon the faith and return to idolatry and strange religions.
It grieves the Spirit of God that the old prophets now hate the young, and the young despise the old! Where are the genuine mentors of this generation? In the past, fathers nurtured sons in the prophetic, but today, the moment they see a young prophet standing for truth, they conspire to destroy him.
Instead of guiding, they push them into the world, using any means necessary to silence their voices. But God is still raising a remnant—those who will stand for truth in the midst of compromise. For “the spirit of the prophets is subject to the prophets” (1 Corinthians 14:32), and God is not the author of confusion.
The prophetic ministry is real, and progressive revelations by faith are real, but believers must be discerning in these end times. Many modern-day prophets have become experts in cursing instead of exhorting. Some have turned their offices into dens of immorality—keeping secret wives and girlfriends in distant places while preaching holiness on the altar. Others have reduced young women in their churches to mere objects of pleasure, placing them on salaries just to have access to them. Have they forgotten that “God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:14)? They think grace will cover what repentance has not washed away, but they deceive themselves.
Because of these false prophets, many marriages, families, and homes have been destroyed. They were called to depopulate hell, yet they now populate it. Their actions have stained the names of genuine men of God, making people doubt even those who are truly sent by God. Nigeria, like many parts of the world, is suffering because the prophets have failed. “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the Lord (Jeremiah 23:1). The failure of spiritual leadership is the root of our national problems. When the prophets go astray, the people stumble. When the prophetic altar is polluted, the land suffers. This is why it is urgent to cleanse our spiritual and physical altars before it is too late.
In Nigeria today, there are two categories of prophets: career prophets and genuine prophets. Career prophets are in the business for personal gain, seeking fame, wealth, and power. Genuine prophets, on the other hand, walk in the fear of God, refusing to compromise. But the career prophets have become louder, drowning out the voice of the true ones. Prophets now condemn each other on the altar, not in the spirit of correction but out of competition and jealousy. Some have even reduced prophecy to mere gossip, using revelations to entertain rather than edify. But God is watching. The time of reckoning is near.
This write-up is not to condemn but to expose the truth, as God instructed. “Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?” (Galatians 4:16). Christians, wake up! Jesus is coming soon. Let us turn our hearts back to God and align ourselves with His Spirit. It is time to return to the old paths, where prophets trembled before speaking, where men sought God before making decisions, where the fear of the Lord was the foundation of the prophetic ministry. The voice of God cannot be rushed, and the calling of a prophet is not for sale. Let us purify the altar, for judgment begins in the house of God. “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17).
